What Are You So Afraid Of? Poem by Don Subba

What Are You So Afraid Of?

Screaming in the darkness,
I know that you hear me.
Trying to hold my voice inside,
When you could just set me free.

What are you so afraid of?
I'm hanging on the edge,
And you're not holding my hand.
Don't be scared, don't be sad,
It's me—your only friend.

What are you so afraid of?
What are you so afraid of?
It's me, your only friend.
I'm hanging on the edge.

Crawling through the darkness,
You can see I'm worn.
Maybe you're hiding from your pain
By keeping me ignored.

What are you so afraid of?
I'm hanging on the edge,
And you're not holding my hand.
Don't be scared, don't be sad,
It's me—your only friend

How long will you keep quiet?
On this road we all must walk.
One day you'll have to speak my truth
To finally find your peace.

What are you so afraid of?
What are you so afraid of?
It's me, your only friend.
I'm hanging on the edge.

I can't help you any other way.
I'm trapped, just like you are.
Locked inside these walls
Of flesh and broken bones.

What are you so afraid of?
What are you so afraid of?
It's me, your only friend.
I'm hanging on the edge.
