What Color Do You See? Poem by Hebert Logerie

What Color Do You See?

Tell me what color you see
When you close your eyes at night.
Do you see the blue and clear waves of the sea?
The answer is negative. Do you see, in flight,
The peacocks blending with the depth of heaven?
Oh! I hope that you’re not dreaming young women.
The color that you see when you close your eyes
Will never change. All things will look the same. The flies
Will not be visible, the hookworms will fest until they drop dead,
And you will feel no pain, no ache, and no bumps in your head.

You better get used to this majestic color,
You better get to love this invisible rainbow:
That’s the color of the night. When the door
Is either shut or open, it doesn’t matter if the beam is low
Or high. The color and the scene will never change.
You will never get bored, and you will see no strange
Angels flying through the clouds in paradise,
Nor the devils stealing the last merchandise
