What Could It Hurt? Poem by Bethany Unknown

What Could It Hurt?

I could hear it start slow
I could smell it, so fresh
I could feel it, gentle cool
And then it was over
As quick as it had begun.
The rain
It was the only thing I could count on
To keep me from going crazy
It was refreshing and exhilarating
It was unlike anything I had ever experienced
There was nothing that would ever be able to compare
To the magnificence of it
I imagined the cool touch that it would bring
Every time my desperation to grasp it grew
And yet I stayed
Unchanging
Still trapped
Kept away to save me from harm
How could something so delightful,
Tarnish me in any way, I pondered
What could it hurt for just one day?
What I would give, just to be in the outside rain
Just once
I was unable to escape
And so I wait
Behind these windows
For my rescuer to come save me.
