What Does The Future Have In Store For Me? Poem by Ali Rahimi

What Does The Future Have In Store For Me?

What does the future have in store for me?
What will become of me?
Where is my destination?
Who is my savior? Whose words should I follow?
Why the f… am I here? WTF am doing here?
Whose heart should I capture?
Destined to the tides of uncertainty,
Fated to the storms of sad reality,
Was born yesterday, am living the present,
Shall be harshly catapulted into future,
Seconds hastily pulled me away from the mom’s safe comforting belly,
Into the rough crushing claws of time,
Like a baby kangaroo thrown out of her mom’s pouch,
Against her will, against her decision, against her determination,
Into the wild life, into wilderness,
From mom’s honey to life’s sting,
What does the future have in store for me?
Life is a gamble, life is an enigma, life is a dark horse,
Could be snake in the grass, or the golden goose,
Giving you constant cash, and success,
I am driving Mercedes, Yes, darling!
I am living in an opulent majestic palace,
I wear dazzling shirts, exuberant shoes,
Beautiful blonde is my girl friend,
I drink royal Shiraz wine, I smoke the best tobacco money can buy,
I was born into wealth, am scavenging on my dads’ easy money,
I graduated from Ivy League school,
But does it really matter?
Does it boost my future?
Do I feel happy? Do I feel content? Do I feel satisfied?
Why do I feel bruised and confused?
I feel miscued,
As if I am being used, abused, misused,
I mused and mused,
Am I being fooled? Ruled? Nude and booed?
Trapped in the mire of time? In the inescapable firm clasp of fate?
Being born and torn? Was I born or torn?
Yes, torn between hope and despair, surety and doubt,
Faith and infidelity, obedience or rebellion,
Darkness and light, life and death,
Life is a maze, life is a duel with a beast in the dark,
Life is a dark horse, could be snake in the grass,
Or the golden goose, giving you cash and success,
What does the future have in store for me?
But, future is the tea I drink with a nice friend,
In a café in working class neighborhood,
Future is the sofa I lean on comfortably and watch my favorite movie,
The pillow talk with my love,
The shower I take after a long day,
The rain drops on my beloved’s hair,
The serene healing music I listen to,
Pink Floyd, Bob Marley, Michael Jackson, Curt Cobain, Led zeppelin,
Dire Straits, Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, Amy Winehouse,
Future is the dance floor, swimming pool, my chair,
My doorknob, my hair, my chocolate,
Future is a shoulder I can lean on safe and secure,
Future is my pen, my imagination, my mind,
BUT rest assured, darling:
BRAIN BEATS BRAWN,
BRAIN BEATS BRAWN,
Let’s drink life to the very last drop, and be happy,
future is me, future is you...
What does the future have in store for me?
