What Hurts? Poem by Vani Agarwal

What Hurts?

What hurts the most is never pain,
for it always makes you numb.
What hurts the most is never failure,
for it teaches you to succumb.

What hurts the most is not hard,
as it kills the softness inside.
What hurts the most is a jokers card,
as it laughs at you while it cries.

What hurts the most is never loss,
as it makes you stronger.
What hurts the most is never shown as gloss,
it is simple and deep and whole.

What hurts the most is love,
as it pulls you away.
What hurts the most is standing above,
the height makes you feel alone.

What hurts the most sensitive,
as it makes you weak in the bones.
What hurts the most is tentative,
as it comes whenever you start.

What hurts the most is finding new,
as it is another to let go.
What hurts the most is like the rain when there is dew,
for it shatters all the beauty once told.
