What If Poem by Ibn Ali

What If

What if,
All the loving, all the lusting, all the wanting was all for nothing,
Sullen flame swaying drunken shadows was all playing,
What if the best of us had bested us and all that's left is reminiscing,
What if the moistness of your lips is just a memory perfected,
Your love encased in amber,
Preserved for my revision,
Subject to inspection,
The lover's tryst, mind's abyss,
Dulling of the senses,
Pure delight, a stolen kiss,
There goes intellect and vision.
