What If Poem by Joe Fraccalvieri

What If

Rating: 5.0

What if a country could win every war
without having to fire a shot
And if the fruit that we bought at the grocery store
would always stay fresh-- never to rot

And what if we choose all the news we could use
and not lose or confuse what we've got...
Would you still cross your T's--
say, 'bless you! ', at a sneeze--
and above all your I's place a dot

What if the soldiers put away every gun
when their ears heard the sound of attack...
What if the enemy decided to run
not waiting around to fight back

When the earth turns away, at the end of the day
from the face of the fiery sun...
What if the night that we knew,
had begun to turn blue
instead of fading to black

The day is done-- you've had your fun...
Now it's time to hit the sack

Do you finally decide
to lie on your side
after you've tried to pry the windows a crack
Or do you cover your head as you sit there in bed
as you discover we're at war in Iraq
