What If I Am Poem by Francis Duggan

What If I Am

What if i am one who writes doggerel
One who is destined for the poetasters hell
And to those who say for your rhymes you never receive any pay
You ought to consider giving rhyming away
I say with rhyming words i do love to play
And till the day i do die as a rhymer i will stay
Since i penned my first rhymes in nineteen seventy three
The bug of the rhyme it has got into me
And i care not what others of me have to say
I just add to my growing numbers of rhymes every day
I do not consider it a waste of time
On writing my thinking on paper in rhyme
If i said i would give away rhyming this would be a lie
As i hope to be doing it till the day i do die.
