What Is God Saying Poem by Curtis Johnson

What Is God Saying

I began this year with daily readings from Jeremiah and Jude. From the pages of Jeremiah, I hear God saying to His people: I have reached out to you again and again by many and various means and sources. Yet you have refused to listen, and to this moment, continue to reject me. Your time is running out; your moments are measured; your days are numbered, and I am running out of remedies.

From the pages of Jude, I hear God saying to His people: Please read history and remember that no one, not even angels can afford to take me nor their faith for granted, assuming that nothing can ever change our course and alter our destiny. Some ten years ago, a dear lady asked me, 'What is God saying? ' It is a question that I do not recall being asked before in the manner in which she was asking. Furthermore, there was a part of me that said, 'Wow! She believes in me and that I actually hear from God'. Who am I and what have I ever done to merit such a question? I was both honored and humbled. So in my shaken spirit, there was a momentary pause until responded, but I cannot remember what my reply was to her. I'm sure that it was such that she found a sense of solace in the words of my reply. One thing that I do remember is that I will never forget that moment in the chapel, just before a mid-week worship service. Since that awesome moment, 'What is God saying? ' has stuck to me like glue and has been added to another line or repertoire that I have processed most of my Christian life. 'What would Jesus do? ' In our life's journey, in every climate along the way, there is a vital need to know, 'What is God saying? ' That is, what is God saying to me and everything else that relates or is connected to me. Each day, I want to know, whether I'm asking consciously or otherwise, 'what is God saying? ', to me today. I believe that God speaks in multiple ways and tones, and HIS sheep hear his voice. In my experience, the primary frequency to which my spiritual antenna has been connected to hear from God is to tune in to the words that He has already revealed and spoken. My life line, my eternal mana is the Bible.

I cannot account for what God may or may not be saying to you or what vehicle He chooses to communicate with you, but allow me to say this without doubt or equivocation: May we keep our eyes and ears open that we may see and hear. And may we never, never I say, take God, His Word, and His graciousness for granted.
