What Is Man That You Are Mindful Of Him? Poem by Christen Kuikoua

What Is Man That You Are Mindful Of Him?

Oh Man, What Are You: That God Is Mindful of You?
Dust, given breath.
Clay that moves.
And a fragile body walking on borrowed time.
Yet the God who stretched the heavens with His hands
Still turns His eyes toward you.

Tell me: what is man that God is mindful of him?

Oh Man, What Are You: That God Is Mindful of You?
You wake each morning breathing air you did not create.
Your heart beats by a command you never spoke.
Your eyes open beneath a sky you did not build.
Yet you live as if you are your own god,
As if the throne of heaven sits empty.

You take His gifts.
You breathe His air.
You walk on His earth.
And still you refuse His name.

Oh Man, What Are You: That God Is Mindful of You?
He does not need you.
Understand this clearly: He does not need you.

God is not lonely.
God is not incomplete.
God is not weakened by your absence.

He is God all by Himself.

If He walked away from you forever,
He would still be God.
He would still be holy.
He would still be glorious beyond imagination.

Yet He stays.

Oh Man, What Are You: That God Is Mindful of You?
You curse His name with the same tongue that begs for mercy.
You mock His holiness and call it intelligence.
You reject His authority and call it freedom.

You spit toward heaven
And call rebellion courage.

Yet the God you insult
Still calls your name.

He knocks on the door of your heart.
Again.
And again.
And again.

Through sermons.
Through suffering.
Through quiet conviction in the middle of the night,
When your soul knows something is wrong.

Yet you pretend to hear nothing.

Oh Man, What Are You: That God Is Mindful of You?
He sees the sin you hide behind closed doors.
He sees the pride you polish and parade as strength.
He sees the lust you entertain, the lies you excuse,
The selfishness you baptize with pretty language.

You fool people.

You do not fool God.

He knows every thought.
Every secret.
Every moment you pushed Him away.

And still He stays.

Oh Man, What Are You: That God Is Mindful of You?
Do not mistake His patience for weakness.
Do not confuse His silence with approval.

God is love.
But God is also holy.

If He comes to you with mercy
And you slam the door,

If He calls your name
And you refuse to answer,

If He offers you life
And you choose your sin instead,

Then understand the weight of that decision.

Oh Man, What Are You: That God Is Mindful of You?
One day your lungs will release their final breath.
One day your heart will beat for the last time.
One day the noise of this world will fade,
And eternity will stand before you.

And God will not force you to love Him.

If you spend your life rejecting Him,
Mocking Him,
Ignoring Him,

Then He will leave you where you insisted on being.

Outside of Him.

Oh Man, What Are You: That God Is Mindful of You?
Outside of God there is no light.
Outside of God there is no peace.
Outside of God there is no joy.

There is only separation.
There is only darkness.
There is only the terrible weight of a soul
That chose everything except the One who made it.

Call it what it is.

Hell.

Not because God stopped loving you.
But because you refused to love Him.

Oh Man, What Are You: That God Is Mindful of You?
He called you.
He waited for you.
He knocked on the door of your heart.

Not once.
Not twice.
But again and again through the years of your life.

And still you kept the door closed.

Tell me then:
What is man
That God was mindful of him?
