What Is This Sweet Zikr... Poem by Mohammad Younus

What is this sweet zikr...
...that fills me with light...
...and illumines my heart?
You lead me as my guardian father...
...and you never let me go off from you

I do not know...
...how to step in your space;
Oh my blasphemy!
You are beyond the space!

You embrace my being and keep me...
...hugged to yourself;
Away from you, surely, I will sink...
...into the abyss of nothingness;
None can bring me out to the light...
...save you, by your mighty hand;
You're like the light of...
...the heavens and the earth;

You're nearer to me...
...than my thought is to my brain;
You are nearer to me...
...than my jagular vein;
But you're still...
...imperceptible and distant;

You are without any one particular name
The names of all things that you taught...
...to Adam, are actually your own names.

Yours is the eternal holy music...
...that enters me...
...through my eyes, ears, and intellect!
Yours is the sweet word...
...that overflows into my heart;

You bring the living out of the dead...
...and bring the dead out of the living...
...and bring to life the earth after its lifelessness...
...and thus we will be brought out.¹

You've awakened me to new life...
...from the sleep of death;
You give me new life from day to day...
...and will never break my lifeline.

I am just the ray that flashes down...
...from your eternal light;
You've entered my frame when you blew...
...into me your Spirit;
I confess to you that I have not known my self.

Your reality penetrates the hidden folds...
...of my self...
...and so You take me out of fear and grief;
Verily, they who are close to God...
...no fear need they have, and neither shall they grieve; ²

You're the source of all wisdom...
...and knowledge...
...and of it you reveal but little...
...on whomsoever you will;

You are our strength, and anchor us firmly...
...in the ocean of your oneness;
You create and annihilate whatever and whenever...
...you wish;
Your power and energy penetrates everything!

Commanded by you...
...your messengers came to us...
...bearing the books of guidance from you;
All righteous seeking the truth find victory...
... over evil through their guidance.

You are the one who created...
...the mirror of your manifestation for us...
...extending over the heavens and the earth;
In it Divinity is clearly manifest!
Whenever your lovers look at your manifestation...
...they find you lovingly looking at them.
