What Is Truthful To One Poem by Francis Duggan

What Is Truthful To One

For every clever person you will find a buffoon
Who will tell you that people do live on the moon
And that billions of people live beyond the stars
On Planets like Jupiter, Venus and Mars.

So many believe in a heaven and hell
But in the existence of an afterlife none has yet come back to tell
Of life after death in a World in the sky
Why I feel so cynical don't ask me why?

What is truthful to one to another a lie
And as a doubter I'll live and as a doubter I'll die
An agnostic or atheist or call me what you may
Since my God is in Nature though to her I don't pray.

We only believe what we want to believe
If the good when they die go to heaven then why for them grieve
Or are we all agnostics in our own way
Those who do not believe and those who to their God pray?
