What's In A Word? Poem by Heather Delhom

What's In A Word?

What’s in a word?
That is contingent upon the manner
In which it is presented.

In a song,
It can be sorrow or joy.
It can express how one feels
And not portray otherwise.

In poetry,
It manifests the soul it encompasses,
And shares its demeanor
With those who reach for the meaning within.

In books,
It discloses the stories of our lives-
Past and present;
Real and fictitious.
We relate, and debate,
And turn the page once more-
Hoping to find direction and guidance.

In writings,
Words teach us
That not one particular interpretation
Will be universal.
For that is what sets our desires apart-
To live as one,
And as one who has lived!
