What's Life About I Often Wonder Poem by Francis Duggan

What's Life About I Often Wonder

What's life about I often wonder since we are mortals born to die
Many claim that the soul lives forever whilst some will tell you that's a lie
And as for the World of the hereafter none of as yet has come back for to tell
Of the paradise referred to as heaven or the World of the damned known as hell
I am not a religious person and to any God I do not pray
Though I do love the Goddess of Nature my last remains in her bosom will lay
What's life about an often asked question a question that's puzzling to me
We are born for the scythe of the Reaper like all life forms of land and of sea
The God I believe in is not male my Goddess a beautiful she
Known to many as Mother Nature such beauty she has for to see
'Tis true death is part of our existence and the thought of death we only fear
Though most people pray to their God for mercy when they sense death to them is near
But what's life about I often wonder our greatest achievements seem small
When to the sharp scythe of Nature's own Reaper as mortals we are destined to fall.
