When A Hero Was Needed Poem by Francis Duggan

When A Hero Was Needed

Dismissed in the town as a never do well
And without any achievements in life of for to tell
One of the local community's marginalized
But people like him as is known have surprised
Joe and Jill Brookes only child ten years old Sue
Her reason for being alive today to him it is due
Whilst swimming in the bay she got into difficulty
And by the retreating waves was being swept out to sea
He could hear her screaming for help from the shore
An the danger to his own life he choose to ignore
Despite the huge waves out to her he did swim
And for saving her life she can only thank him
A new found respect in the community by him won
When a hero was needed he was the one.
