Then suddenly disaster struck!
On the blindside of VRA, GridCo and ECG,
The lights went ‘dummm'
But the ‘sor' never followed… sad!
Peace had to leave her brothers and sisters for good,
Through the corridor where geese roost.
That fateful Tuesday afternoon of 2012's July 24
When a pebble dropped in Ghana's eye;
When instant darkness engulfed our nation,
The town cryers were dumbfounded, speechless,
The gong-gong beaters could not find their rhythm, confused,
The noisy dirge-singers lost their voices, instantly.
Ghana had been hit hard,
Knocked out of whack,
Shocked to the marrow
And thrown into a state of inconsolable mourning spree....
From The Castle to the coasts
From Otuam to Obuasi
Form Hamile to Hohoe
From Bawku to Berekum
From Yendi to Sekondi
From Nkroful to Nkawkaw.
But what happened?
What was it that triggered the sounding of the sacred Atumpan in Ekumfi?
And the hoisting of a black flag at the royal palace of Tuntumba Jakpa?
I can't say it. Need I even say?
Those that had eyes, didn't they see the premonition?
The crashing on a bus of a Nigerian cargo plane,
The inexplicable massacre of nomads in Gushegu,
That fatal clash of brothers against brothes near Bolga etc etc...
The signals were subtle but sure;
The foundation and soul of a nation were about to be shaken.
Alas, it happened!
The passing into glory of a sitting president of the Republic of Ghana,
Professor John Evans 'Asomdwe-Hene' Fiifi Atta-Mills.
May his soul enjoy eternal rest with God. Amen!
