When All Things Fade To Black - Poem by David Whalen

Always with me
Never strays
But better seen
On bright sunny days

Always underfoot
But never in my way
And even when I step on it
It has nothing bad to say

Always used to run from it
But it was far to fast for that
Always seemed to know where I was going
Always knew where I was at

Always been a part of me
A part of me since day one
And likes to stride ahead of me
When I’m backlit by the sun

Always know the day is coming
When all things fade to black
That day…finally, it’ll walk away from me
And never even look back
