When Chaos Arises Poem by J. James Martinez

When Chaos Arises

I've heard you say
That at given times
I...
Am the voice you'd love to hear
The ear you'd like to chew

Listen...

When all I can do
To
Stop shaking is clutch
Onto my books or my belief...

When i'm that deep breath away
From moving on and being okay...

Five letters and seven numbers

When I fill with light
And leak out onto this page...

When I can't stop screaming
And this pulse won't slow it's beating
And hope and will is fleeting...

At the point where the road splits
And she stands
Legs spread
To barricade you from this...

When thunder rolls down my cheek
And dirty fingers choke...

When I feel my hands begin to swallow my face
And I backtrack and hide myself away...

When that ball of broken sentences on the couch
Lashes out
Spewing doubt and fear...

When that ball of life fragments and lost progress
Is ME
Revealing neuroses...

Your canyons
And
Your siren
Cross my struggling
And forever in crisis mind
