The Glorious Measuring Stick Poem by J. James Martinez

The Glorious Measuring Stick

the clock is breathing it's hot heavy breath
on my tired sore neck
the game and the season
come down to this play...

in hell
or in holland
from osaka to ohio
this earth can never take you
from me
no sexy ribcage
or
shy sweet shoulder
can take you away from me
tidal waves and devestating fires ablaze
can never take you away from me

i keep you with me
to keep me from falling
your beauty and genius
pushes my ugliness
and
feeds my intellect

you're the glorious measuring stick
by which my ugly hands
which type these pretty words
and for all cute grins
charming cheeks
and sexy shins are measured against

i keep you
to remind me of why i keep breathing
and why i keep trying
to pass these harmless little white lies
to know
that the time we shared
scared and in silence
is the best time of my life
