When Darkness Comes Poem by RIC BASTASA

When Darkness Comes

when darkness comes
the hands must account for
what they have done with
the kindness of light

the eyes must close and
see what darkness shows
apart from the clear
showings of the the
realities of brightness

the heart must start to
sing another song
perhaps lovelier this time
for some comfort
that there is nothing to fear
that darkness is not the enemy
but just the resting place
of those who want to rest
and get some sleep
and then float
so perfectly in the world
of dreams
