When he was younger
With my son I always did play,
When he was younger
With my son I always wanted to stay.
When he was thirteen
It was then only just him and me,
When he was thirteen
From his eyes excitement I could see.
For him I would always dream and cook
And many times take him out to eat,
I would always read him his favorite book
And give him his favorite treat.
Together we would always go on vacation
Always just him my son and I,
We'd holiday in a different nation
I enjoyed the excitement in his eye.
When he was older
No longer did he want me at his side,
When he was older
No more was I his friend or his guide.
When he became an adult
He didn't need or want me anymore,
When he became an adult
I then sat beside a closed door.
As I now sit alone on the couch
I watch and hear my son go here and there,
Unto me, he is now a grouch
I now remember yesterday with fondness and care.
