When I Saw The Cross Poem by Euris Bryant

When I Saw The Cross

When I looked through my spiritual eyes at the cross on which my Blessed Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ died, I saw His blood dripping to the ground. The crown of thorns caused the blood to drip into His eyes. I thought I heard Him say, "My child I am hanging here for you." I wanted to wipe His eyes with a nice soft cloth, but I was not tall enough to reach them. It was as though I could hear Him say, "I see you, my child, through the blood; I know your name. I wanted to kiss His feet and pull the nails from them and I thought I heard him say, "Not now my child, for these feet will be used to show you the right path to walk through your life. I am to be lifted up in this manner for the world to see and understand." Again I looked at the cross and my Saviour was not there. All I saw was blood stains. Then I heard a faint voice say, "They have laid Him in a tomb in a garden." Who is speaking? I said. This small voice said, "I am an angel, go and look for you Saviour, surrender your life to Him and fall and worship Him, and whatever He tells you to do, DO IT!" I went to the garden and I wondered and wondered if I had been told the truth because I did not find Him as I thought. Then I heard Him say, "Here I am, my child. I am here to help you. I will never leave you or forsake you. You too will have a cross; it will not be too heavy for you to carry for I will help you. You can do all things through me. I will give you strength." I looked into His eyes and I did not see blood; I saw love. I felt His love emerge me. I began to think about the cross my Saviour hung on and I saw a meaning for my life. I knew that MY WILL SHOULD CROSS OVER AND BECOME HIS WILL. This depicts a CROSS. "NOT MY WILL, LORD JESUS, BUT THINE BE DONE." When I saw the cross on which my Saviour bled for me, I saw the vine of Jesus Christ, and I wanted to be a branch. I want to grow on the vine and be rooted in Jesus Christ as the cedars grow. I want to feel the tenacious roots that stand firm when storms come. I want to join hands with my brothers and sisters in Christ and smell the beautiful fragrance like the cedars of Lebanon that blow over Israel. This I feel is representative of the love we should have for all men. Jesus Christ has said, and I do believe, "By this shall men know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another." (John 13:35) "God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him. (I John 4:16) I WANT TO FOLLOW JESUS CHRIST
