When I Say You Are Present Poem by Mohammad Younus

When I Say You Are Present

When I say you are present,
it's not just a thought;
it's a storm in my chest,
a battle I have won.
The air feels too refreshing,
the nights cloaked
in dark tresses divine,
The divine silence hums,
with refrain, Hu, calling,
"Where have you gone, my child? "
I can't find my way home;
I stumble, I fall, yet, Your presence
surrounds me, a mantle divine.
The stars shine Your shimmer,
the sun cascades Your glow,
Besides You beside me,
I just don't know anything else.
Each heartbeat, Your whisper,
calling Your name, Hu,
Each breath that I take
feels full with Your subtle sound, Hu.
I chase Your reflection in mirrors
You have created
for Your own manifestation,
Not shadows that vanish, unfair.
I feel it, my love, Your omnipresence.

I'm a ship lost at sea,
You're my compass, my shore,
Adrift in my negligence,
I long for Your presence.
So bring me back into awareness,
To see Your light, my reason to be,
Without You, I'm not a thing
worth any name.
But missing You is my illusion,
The truth is unmistakable—
You're everywhere, shining,
through nights and through days.
