When I Was 3 & 10 Poem by Jyniqua Bentford

When I Was 3 & 10

When i was 3 & 10
I heard my mother say, Go to bed sweet hearts and in yall rooms you two stay.
When the beating start it was hard to stay away, and when the gun shoots ended I knew one of our lifes was the pay. But i was 3 &10
And the Pain and sorrows grow still to this day

When i was 3 & 10
She said again to me
You will pay a cost for not letting things be.
So now when I look back to remember what i see,
I should have listen and it wouldn't be just me.
I feel so much regret and if I could my life i would bet.
Now im 5 & 10
And oh I regret, I regret
