When I Was Dead Poem by Randy McClave

When I Was Dead

Remember, when I was dead
I stopped calling you,
Not one word to me was ever said
Because, you didn't want to.
You had forgotten where I was
So, you never did come to visit me,
Even though you I once did love
Myself you didn't want to remember or see.
There I was all alone
As you moved forward through strife,
Never did you cried or moan
When I was there in your life.
Never did you come to say goodbye
When it all had ended,
Nor did you ever pondered and cry
Not even once had you pretended.
I was never sent any flowers
Or even a sympathy card,
You didn't mourn for seconds, or minutes or hours
From your mind I was barred.
You remembered when I did die
The very second, month and year,
Never not once in empathy did you cry
Never once, not once for me did you shed a tear.
For you I was never the right person
Even though I did what you ever asked,
But, I would never be hating or judging or cursin'
And never did I lie or cheated or wore a mask.
You never called or ever came for visitation
While alive and happy and still living,
But, of course unto you there was no obligation
I was dead, when I got tired of your using and my constant giving.
