When I Was Young Poem by Joel Anthony

When I Was Young

When I was young I would dream of a world that wasn't so cold, so full of realities that would bear strokes on the old. Where shameful hands were only unfinished deeds, where fatherhood meant more than fallen fruit from a tree.

When I was young I yearned to be without fear, that deep stricken fear that seeps its way into the soul. A life where broken dreams was just a waking in the night, and total darkness only a mere 8 hrs long.

When I was young I would imagine a realm of dragons and castles. Myself as a knight, one that was strong enough to split the clouds so that the sun could once again shine.

When I was young I learned to fantasise on what I could not have, for I was yet the age for whiskey and lines.
