When Nothing Could Comfort Give Poem by J. D. Martin

When Nothing Could Comfort Give

In pain I sought the Lord of Life
When nothing could comfort give
And when my soul these things abhorred
Christ said come forth and live

You know the sorrows that I felt
My pains and groans were heard
A burden laid upon my heart
You saved me through your word

My heart I wholly give to Thee;
O make it fruitful Lord.
My life I dedicate to be
To you in thought and word

I know my life you did require
A servant of your praise
You are the Lord my greatest desire
The reason I was made

What shall I render to my God
For the bounty that he gave
Even through his merciful rod
For the devil has been slain

Your name and praise we celebrate
O Lord grant my request
I’ll sing to your my heart’s desire
God grant your servant rest
