When the heart aches
When the heart aches
Pumping your veins
With viscous red
Pain diffusing through every fibre
like a house alight
alerting the whole neighbourhood
to its presence
by its throbbing whimpers
and golden embers rising
from the burning night
like a phlegm- filled cough escaping
a devil-horned cactus
revealing succulent petals
amongst the tear-stained dunes
when the heart aches
pumping the skies with heavy grey
do not try pluck them from the sky
and shove them beneath the great blue seas
the seas are high enough as it is
rather let the rain come down
flooding through everywhere
and everything
every burn and every sting
extinguishing the blazing silhouette of pain
when the heart aches
remember-
you are alive
