A Song For The Restless Mind Poem by Ariel Kraitzick

A Song For The Restless Mind

This is a song
a song for the restless mind
that ticks in time with the ticking stopwatch
that dances with the hand of the grandfather clock
that rings in synchrony with the old church bell

this is a song
a song for the man who walks with a cane
tip tap
tippity tap
his worn wellingtons walk weakly around my watch
tip tap
tip tap
tippity tap

this is a song
for the red-tinged mouse
iron-stenched
after landing flat on grandfather's hand
round and round
he goes

this is a song
for the agnostic bishop
whose certainty rings as faintly as
the memory of the old church bell
which fell in the storm

this is a song for the restless mind
that ticks and tocks
without thinking to stop

Oh how I wish I was deaf
