When Unrest Taints The Soul Poem by Shannon Wade

When Unrest Taints The Soul

Wrestling in my slumber
Because I simply just " don't want ta"
Even though the world's thirst increases
You say " give them some wata"
My stubbornness speaks:
'I'll never win this fight so why resist? "
I went from viewing the world as a skyscraper
Now that psychological empire is burning like paper
I thought the sky was the limit
Read it on a hallmark card
So why are we hitting a glass ceiling?
Ashamed of the future for our kids
Drowning in guilt
As they look to me
Wearing a mask of joy
Silently crying
How foolish I was to make plans and dreams
Trying to shift the tide
Forgetting that your plans are not mine
The giver of wisdom
I could never master your vision
I say.. they aren't going to listen...
Deaf ears
You say no daughter...that's fear
There's an hourglass
Grains shifting
Deception thickens
I see a search for power
Lips that kiss folly
Tails tucked as we cower
I say I wanna "keep it safe"
You say this isn't that hour
Writing on the wall
Rising
Falling
Faithless
Stalling
Calling
Tears
Mirrors
Shatter
But they could never see the root of the matter
You say polish them with knowledge
Serve up a platter
Ignore the laughter
But I tussle
Saying my "words don't matter"
But then I see my crumbled " happily ever after"
33 with a curfew?
Visions of sailing seas in Parie'
Sharing dinner with destiny
It was glistening
I held on too tight to control
For what?
The thief still crept in
Placing a lighter to hope
Peace is melting
I am not one to entertainpolitical banter
Avoiding conflict and confusion
I'm simply allowing you an opportunity to view my thoughts
As my maker stews them
On the horizon
Saw us rising
Blood smeared writingon the the wall
Drying
