When We Ourselves Were Young – Sonnet Form

When we were young, we scrambled and we fell
We climbed the rocky waterfalls and cliff
We swam in crystal pools in hidden dell
And nobody would raise the question, if
We should be led secured by parent’s hand
Lest danger’s threat should dare to raise its head
But now we see in England’s pleasant land
A sense of safety for each child, instead
For now. all cottonwooled and pandered to,
Our infants may not be exposed to harm
Since litigation looms and some may sue
We must be ultra-safe for fear’s alarm
And so the young these days miss out on fun
That we enjoyed those golden days now gone.
