Where Are We? Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Where Are We?

Where are we?

He has stepped forward
“I am half blind.”
He is Gringo, a Yankee.

Omar is released
Then he was thirteen
In Bora-Bora, following
His father, with deep belief.

“He is in charge.”
Says the avenging soldier.
He wants Omar back in prison.

I say:
“Soldier
Does your half sight see?
Do you have any memory?
How many innocents did you kill?
What for, just for the sake of a cowboy?
Does conscious tell you anything of crimes? ”

I am sad.
I am angry.
I am question.
I am getting no reply
“Where is our humanity? ”
