Where Did That Phrase Originate

During our life we often say, repeat phrases,
At different times, that originated, meaning,
Something different, than we think of it today,
In our mind.
You scratch my back, I'll scratch yours,
Around the 17th century, sailors were punished,
With a whip, with muti strands, cat O' nine tails,
The crew members agreed to give light lashes,
Knowing one day they may be on the receiving,
End, with their hands tied to the rail.

You can run, but you cannot hide,
In 1946 heavyweight boxing champion,
Joe louis, was defending his belt against,
Billy Conn, a lighter faster man,
A reporter asked how he would keep up,
With Conn, Joe replied He can run, but cannot,
Hide is my plan, Louis won in the 8th round,
The statement, still heard around towns.
