Where I Once Was Somewhere Else Poem by Shalom Freedman

Where I Once Was Somewhere Else

WHERE I ONCE WAS SOMEWHERE ELSE

Where I once was somewhere else-
I cannot now know where I am-
Where I am now is not where I would be
But have I ever really been where I would be?
Perhaps for those first married years
I was closer-
But I have never wholly been
Where I should be-
And now it appears
I never will be-
More and more it may well be
I will be leaving this world
As if I never was wholeheartedly a part of it.
