Where Peace Lives. Poem by Monkals Kalu

Where Peace Lives.

The chirping
Of birds at sunrise,
Got her torpid and puling.

'It's all my fault!
Let me blame myself
And see if my heart
Will find peace in regrets.'

She mewls piteously,
Scuffling competitively
With her cute cat in bed,
As she throws the pillows
At innocent frightened 'Lunar'.

'Oh Uju,
You brought this
Upon yourself.
Look how the man
You thought would be your
Backbone, has broken your
Bones and wretched your heart.'

Outwardly,
She wears the best of smiles
Inwardly,
Her tears are unstoppable.
The regrets keep getting her
Eyes wet and swollen at nights.

But she's a happy mother
To a Bright Future. Her Child;
The source of her strength,
And only reason the regrets
Clustering in her heart aren't
So engulfing.

She now live in a new world,
Sadly, the African world where
Single Mothers are treated with
Atrocious disdain, hence her regrets.

But she's that strong woman,
Whose skin adapts to any world.
He may have moved on, but she
Certainly wasn't dumped in a bin
To rot, but was left in the air like
A bird, to fly to Where Peace Lives.
