Where The Answers Lie Poem by Alex Jolly

Where The Answers Lie

Let’s pretend for a moment
That there’s a make-believe chest,
And locked inside lies the answer
Which puts man’s questions to rest.

Not just a lovely sentiment
Nor a thought provoking line,
But a glorious gesture
Connecting man with the Divine.

Some men have their lives spent
Preaching the answers they’ve found,
But no one is completely sure
If it’s to heaven men are bound.

All known now is just a hint
At what purpose man was formed.
Truth is this chest’s treasure
To which all of man has swarmed.

Wondering where their lives went
Aged men surround the chest.
Each of them a searcher;
Each thinking he knows best.

Narrow thoughts cause excitement:
“The truth is not with thee!
You follow The Deceiver,
The treasure belongs to me! ”

They pretended every moment,
Believed the make-believe,
Standing where the answers lie,
But no one has the key.
