The bell is ringing far away
But heard very close
Within or without?
Sometimes resounding
Sometimes feeble
But always beyond reach
Darkness encircles
As wall after wall
Smoke of doubt smells everywhere
Black clouds of fear overhead
Block the path of light
And the wind of violence threatens
The flickering flame of love
There is no fear
Only when there is no mind
When the breathing is free
Of all authority
And when death is welcome
As the intimate friend of life
The mind is without fear
Only when you hear the bell tolls
In your own heart
And that resounds in all.
