Who Am I Poem by H.M. Gautsch

Who Am I

Rating: 4.0

Even though I been a positive voice to the wrongs

Of our culture,

That doesn't stop me from putting on

this camouflage uniform

People would call me hypocritical,

Irresponsible, irrational

But have they forgotten the stories

in our literature?

Of the courageous, of the brave,

Fighting against the evil and hate.

Internationally, world wide.

Who am I?

I'm a survivor calling her own shots.

Bang, bang, bang,

Welcome to my own thoughts.

I'm a warrior going against the grain.

Bang, bang, bang,

My poetic lyrics will reign.

Who am I?

Who am I?

Who am I?

I am exhausted and weathered of this lifestyle,

A faded smile.

Pushing myself on and off almost for ten years,

Blood, sweat, & tears

What's resurfacing are my fears,

And not for the gain of enemies.

It's time to change gears.

It's time for me to fix the repairs

Time to move on, for it's a new dawn.

I'm no longer going to be the pawn,

No longer your toy in my life.

Who am I?

It's time to break away from these chains,

Away from the pain.

I no longer want to live with strings attached,

A commitment mismatched.

It's time to live the life I love,

And not one that is secured like a glove.

Who am I?

Who am I?

Who am I?

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I wrote this poem based off of the feelings of losing myself when I have to put on the uniform. Despite of wanting to keep fighting for my beliefs of love and peace, I am starting to think outside of the box like a chess player. I don't want to be misguided anymore and be the puppet for the main behind closed curtains.
