Whose Grooming Poem by Randy McClave

Whose Grooming

I see your daughter pushing a baby carriage
And I hear you talking about her one day marriage,
I saw you at the store buying her brand new dolls
And you have pictures of princesses all over her bedroom walls.
I heard you are teaching her to cook for the men folk
And you were being serious and not a joke,
Then I saw where you are taking her to cheerleading events
Then I saw where you entered her into beauty pageants.

I see where you're pushing your son into sports
And teaching him basketball on the courts,
I saw where you also bought him a BB gun
As you told him learning for the military and also for fun.
I saw where you are teaching your son to work on your car
Then him and you began to spar,
Then I heard you buying him another fishing rod and a car toy
Almost the same type that you had as a boy.

I saw the books and magazines that you bought him
Mostly pertaining to cars and sports and the gym,
I saw the books and the magazines that you bought her
Mostly about weddings and cooking and romance when she is older.
I heard where you say others are trying to groom your child
To me that sounds both ridiculous and wild,
I don't want to sound either accusing or assuming
But, tell me aren't you the one that is doing the grooming.
