Why? - Poem by David Kevin Koch

And some live and some die.
And some pass and some fail.
And some laugh and some cry
And some are strong and some are weak
And some are straight and some are bi
And some smoke and some drink
And some are white and some are black
And some are rich and some are poor
And some look good and some look bad
And some are fat and some are thin

why do we judge?
why do we care what one looks like?
why do we care about the little things?
why do we not care about the inside?
why do we act the way we do?
why do we hate others?
why do we have to be racist?
why do we act different to others?
why do we kill?
why do we do the things we do?

I do not know
You may know, or maybe you don’t
But one thing must be said
Why? Why? Why?
This happens every second, every day
All the time, it never stops
Can’t we stop, please let’s stop
I want this to end
I just want to be friends
Will this ever end?
