Why Can't I Be Anyone Else? Poem by Edith. E Lundstam

Why Can't I Be Anyone Else?

Why is it that I can look anywhere but the mirror?
Each and everytime, I fill wth such unending terror
My throat closing up, that mask giving out with a crack
Because that can't be me staring back

Why can't I be anyone else?
'Love yourself' everyone tells
But of course they wouldn't get it
They're perfect, I'll admit
But if I can't even love me
Then I've lost hope that anyone shall answer my plea

Why would anyone look beyond my surface,
See me for more or less
If I can't even look at myself
Why can't I be anyone else?
