Why Couldn'T I Wait? Poem by Bailey Logan

Why Couldn'T I Wait?

How close you were to me
I knew I had but a chance
I couldn't try to soon or late
First I needed a sign or maybe even a glance

But I couldn't wait any more
then I asked and juggled my fate
I wonder now why oh why
i just couldn't, just couldn't wait

I heard the 'no' slip off your tongue
and pierce my burning heart to ache
because, my friend, with a rejection from him,
my heart could not just break

So I missed my opportunity
I missed that crack of light
I just couldn't reach your fingertips
no matter how i wished with all my might

And now you still remain
and dark space in my mind
yet even if i close my eyes,
i see you everywhere, in front and behind

there's nothing I can do
though I try to get rid of you
you smile again, and again my friend,
my heart then burns and breaks in two
