Why Do I Love Him? He Walks In Loveliness... Poem by Allie Dove

Why Do I Love Him? He Walks In Loveliness...

He walks in loveliness, like the night
He is my cloudless paradise with starry skies;
I love him to a depth, extent, and height
As far as my soul will reach.
Why do I love him? Let me count the reasons.
The best of dark and bright
Meet in his expression and his eyes
For I love him all day:
In the quiet, in the sun, or in candlelight.
He is humbled to a tender glow-
Heaven denying a flaunting day.
I love him freely, as men fight for Right;
I love him faithfully, as man turns to God.
His soft light shows in his face-
Where my thoughts go for sweet tranquility.
One shade more of him, one less ray of him,
Would impair his mellowed grace.
I love him with a passion
That puts my childish heartbreak to rest.
How pure it is, that my eyes dwell on his face.
I love him with a love I thought I had lost
And on his cheek, and the lines outside his lips,
He is so soft, so calm, so eloquent,
He has a smile that wins, skin that beams,
I love him with every breath,
Every joy, sorrow, every aspect of my life!

My mind is at peace,
Our hearts full of love that is innocent,
And, if God allows,
I will love him with a love greater than this earth.
