Why I? Poem by Gabi Ngubeni

Why I?

Why I?
Do I see you for who you are?
Commanding all evil to come against love

Why I?
Do I see you for who you are?
Jealous images created through a hating eye

Will I not be better had I been turned blind
To your conjured lust
Preparing to serve I with a dagger
That I can put by my own hand through my own skin
To penetrate to my own flesh
Right into the depths of my own heart

Why I?
Do I see you for who you are?
Beckoning me to come rest at the devil's chambers.
With your own words you utter
Great regards and best wishes
Your heart scorning, mocking me all the way
Watching slowly as I dig my own grave

Why I?
Do I see you for who you are?
When I cannot change what destiny has writ?
