Why Is It - Poem by Samantha Martin

Why is that is the people you love have to get hurt
Why is that when you want it to be you it never is
I wish that all of the pain my friends and family feel would go away
Or at least let the one getting hurt be me
Why is it that when you get hurt no one seems to care
But when they get hurt you wish it were you instead
I don’t know why this is
And I don’t know why it isn’t me
But everyday as I wake up
I wish it were me who feels the pain
And dies everyday
