Why, Lord? Oh Why? Poem by Jessica Penner

Why, Lord? Oh Why?

Rating: 3.3

Her tears, falling fast, chorused down her cheeks
As she rushed to her room, her dear Lord to seek.

She threw herself down onto her bed
And into her pillow buried her head.

'Why, Lord? Oh, why did this happen to me?
What will I do now? I cannot clearly see!

I thought I was doing what you wanted me too!
But now it's all over? Oh! What will I do?

Why, Lord? Oh, why? I just don't understand!
Is this road that I'm on, a part of your plan? '

Then softly, yet clearly, a song broke her cries.
An answer no doubt sent from on high.

She calmed herself down as she thought of the song
That God swiftly sent. It had not taken long.

'You don't understand; I know you're distressed,
But I have a plan, just let it rest.

There is a reason I let you have pain.
Trials will strengthen you, faith you will gain.'

She dried up her tears and lifted her eyes,
Put a smile on her face, cuz God would provide.

The smile didn't last long; soon it was gone
And down in her heart no more was a song.

Doubts started coming; they came thick and fast.
She didn't know why the peace didn't last.

She worried and fretted, 'What'll happen to me?
There's nothing in sight as far as I can see! '

Then to her friend, all her troubles she loosed,
And while opening up, God gave her a boost.

'I have something planned, I'll open a door
Just rest assured and worry no more.

Accept that you are where I want you to be
You are my child, I'll never leave thee.'

She finally accepted. Once more she had peace.
When she could let go, she felt full release.

Then something came up, and she thought 'Maybe
That's the plan God has waiting for me! '

After some praying, she very soon knew,
God had opened this door for her to walk through.

'Thank-you dear Lord! Now I understand
My life will be better because of Your plan.'

So remember my friend, when life closes a door,
Just trust in God and worry no more.

Don't get discouraged. God has a way.
He'll reveal His plan if you trust Him and wait.
