Why Me? Poem by maggie signaigo

Why Me?

Rating: 3.8

'Why me'? I asked my mother
when the table needed cleared,
and the dishes needed washed
and my brothers disappeared.
My mother used to answer me
but I don't remember how.
It's the time we spent together
that I remember now.

'Why me'? I asked my doctor
when told of my affliction.
'I'd rather be a perfect girl,
than be in this condition'.
But the things I learned about myself
from the time I spent alone,
is what made me all I am today
and not another clone.

'Why me'? I asked my savior
when my mother passed away,
I needed just a little more time
I had so much more to say.
'Your mother is a special one
and heaven needs her too,
there are many more who need her touch
her work with you is through'
'Why me'? I asked the pretty girl
when she chose me from the crowd,
at first it was all physical
it was all the forum allowed.
As time went on we became much more
we clicked and bonded so,
our hearts and minds just seemed as one
what we might have been I'll never know.

'Why me'? I asked the young man
before me on bended knee.
But his answer wasn't good enough
not good enough you see.
Oh I want to marry someone
and he'll sweep me off my feet,
and my world will spin around him
this man I've yet to meet.

'Why me'? I asked the scarecrow
as I looked into the mirror
'Why do i keep people so far away'?
'Why don't I let them nearer'?

The scarecrow had no answers

but answers aren't important.

It's the questions that make the difference

if the people don't ignore them.

'Why me'? I asked so many times,

of any who would listen.

A reason is all I wanted

a purpose for my mission.

But all I really learned from all

my questions and my living,

is things happen for a reason

and time is not forgiving.
