Why So? Poem by Chris Todd, Jr.

Why So?

I love you, I can not deny that,
you suffocate me and make me miserable.
Life with out you I can not dream of,
I am too weak to survive with out you; you make me whole.
Though I try to resist, I always come back for more, like the stray you feed, in from the street, always returning for more.
I quit you for awhile, but you called me back,
and I couldn’t resist your temptation.
Your sweetness has me in its grasps;
you are like a siren calling me to my demise,
yet I’ve survived you still.
One day your sweet nectar will bring me to my knees.
I keep swearing you off but I always return for more.
You are my doom, I’ve seen it once before,
twice again, three times you’ll take me away.
When you are mad at me, my whole world turns to black, an unrelenting pain ensues,
and memories are made and lost in single gasps.
During the best of times, you are my friend,
always with me, always a good time,
yet we both know it can’t last forever.
One day the separation will occur,
bitter and heartfelt we must go our separate ways.
Though depressed I may be,
and sad that our love can be no more,
one day, you will see that I survived and moved on.
