Windows

Poem by Ruth Walters

She explores the world through windows,
church windows, school windows,
two up, two down windows,
castle windows, cottage windows.
She's learning, exploring, watching_____
From skyscraper windows to basement flat windows,
through pauper's windows and palace windows,
she observes, absorbs, sucks it in.
Later, when she has grown, she'll remember,
decipher the coded metaphors, empathise, rationalise
but someday she will be demoralised by the windows of life.
There she sits, wistfully watching.......
taking it all in.
A child of our times
