Wings Of Smoke Poem by Kelley Long

Wings Of Smoke

I have not cried since the day you left,
not one single tear from these lids have crept.

At night she soothes me
with her promise of flight,
higher and higher i rise
until you are no longer in sight.

The fog conseals you
with her spiteful stare,
I have no fight,
this pain i can no longer bare.

I lay back and let go.
If only for a short time
fore you will return with
the sunlight and mornings chime.

The day moves along in a sudden blur
of promises broken and words unspoken.
My spirit is shattered, lost and hopeless.

Again she soothes me with her promise of flight
until you are no longer in sight.

Such a painful game we play,
Her and I,
a rose cloaked in love,
She tells such a beautiful lie! !
